From the Editors
Hong Kong has always held top positions in the arena of international trade and finance despite its size, and its citizens have been commended for their diligence, courage and strength of character. Therefore, the purpose of this journal is to raise people’s awareness of the achievements Hong Kong has attained and its potential for sustainable development, and to encourage the community to celebrate its success.
So far, all the contributors to this issue have been undergraduate students of science at the University of Hong Kong. It is significant that these young people, who are training to be the leaders of tomorrow, should be positive about our home.
The journal is intended for everyone who calls Hong Kong home regardless of ethnic origin, skin colour or mother tongue. Readers who do not fall into that category are, of course, also welcome but should be aware that the writers may have made certain assumptions about readers’ background knowledge, especially regarding life in Hong Kong and the local terminology we use.
The number of good quality submissions has been low in recent years but, out of respect for our readers, we prefer to publish only those that are well written and make a true contribution to our understanding of ourselves and our society. Your contributions to future issues are always most welcome. If you intend to submit an article for future issues of this journal, please follow the notes for contributors on the journal home page. You are also advised to focus on one area in which Hong Kong has excelled and include concrete suggestions on how the territory may celebrate its achievements.
