Areas of Research Foci
Research in the Centre is focused on English Language Teaching for academic and professional purposes. Some sub areas are: the nature of academic and professional communication, learner autonomy and computer support for language learning, language assessment and programme evaluation. Our research in language teaching is also informed by basic research in: the relationship between language representations and knowledge structures, the nature of second language learning or communication in bilingual/multilingual contexts, especially in Asia. We have attracted grants from various sources such as the Hong Kong Research Grants Council and have given plenary / symposium addresses at many international conferences. Our links with world-class universities include Cambridge and Tsinghua.
