CAES Summer English Support Programme: One-to-One English Support and Discussion Groups (June 5 – 30, 2017)

To help you improve your English over the summer, CAES offers the following:

June 5 – 30, 2017

1. 30-minute one-to-one English Support sessions with a CAES teacher for the purpose of speaking practice or writing support; and

2. one-hour Discussion Groups each moderated by a CAES teacher.

July 3 – 28, 2017 (Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, 2-4pm)

For postgraduate students only: 30-minute one-to-one consultations with a CAES teacher for the purpose of thesis/dissertation writing support.

The main purpose of these sessions is for the teacher advisor to suggest resources and strategies for you to develop independent learning skills for improving your English.  Therefore, each student can attend at most TWO one-to-one sessions (including both online booking and walk-in) per week and TWO discussion sessions (including both online booking and walk-in) per day.

Both activities will take place in the Advisory Zone (Zone R) of Chi Wah Learning Commons, Centennial Campus:

One-to-one sessions: Room 2.69

Group discussion sessions: Room 2.77

* Please check the venue carefully when making your booking

Please be reminded to bring your student ID card to access Chi Wah Learning Commons. (You may enter the place using the lift in the Run Run Shaw Tower.)

In the half-hour one-to-one session, you can use it as an opportunity to practice speaking with a CAES teacher, who will provide feedback on your speaking and suggest ways of improvement. If you want to use the time to receive some feedback on your writing, you must bring along a short sample of your writing so that the teacher can diagnose weaknesses and advise you on ways of improvement. However, the teacher will not proofread written work for you.

In the full-hour Discussion session, the teacher will act as a moderator, and offer feedback on your speaking skills and suggest ways of improvement.

Places are open to both undergraduates and postgraduates studying in HKU and are available on a first-come-first-served basis.
