This course doesn’t just focus on language learning – it aims to stimulate students’ taste buds by way of a culinary tour of Europe. We explore trends, traditions, and characteristics in Western cuisine; how it differs from Cantonese food; how restaurants, food halls, and supermarkets are set-up; introducing Cantonese food to foreigners; understanding and ordering from menus; and tackling the minefield of dos and don’ts in Western dining etiquette. There will be an opportunity to sample food items in class, with the final session dedicated to practising table manners at lunch in a restaurant on campus.
