From the Editor
This journal is intended for people who are looking for an interesting place to spend a holiday. If that is what you are looking for, Hong Kong is the place for you. In fact, “interesting” is too bland a word to describe Hong Kong. It is vibrant, exciting, pulsating, throbbing, never-stopping, a meeting of East and West and exhausting (in a fulfilling sort of way). Hong Kong offers shopping (shop until you drop), food (the whole range of world cuisine plus every variant of Chinese cuisine you could think of), night life, architecture (Chinese and colonial, old and new), culture (eastern and western), history, landscape (sea and mountains all easily accessible) and an amazing biodiversity.
This journal offers you something you will find nowhere else. It is written by locals for visitors. Most significantly, the writers do NOT work for the government, for travel agents or in the tourist industry and they are NOT professional travel writers. They are all students studying science at the University of Hong Kong. What they have in common is that they all live in Hong Kong and want to tell you about their home and help you get the most out of a visit. Each short article focuses on something about Hong Kong that the writers believe will be attractive to visitors. The articles give you the inside story from a local point of view.
There is something for everyone in this issue of the journal with articles about places, local customs, different kinds of food on offer and the countryside so easily accessible from the city. All the articles strive towards a single goal which is to make you want to:
VISIT
HONG
KONG
Your feedback on the articles in this journal is most welcome. Please send it to me via the contact link on the web site or by letter to the address below. I hope we are successful in attracting you to Hong Kong because you will really enjoy a holiday here.
